Circle No. 5
The fifth tomb circle in the necropolis of Li Muri (fig. 1) is a burial chamber located in an isolated position compared with the other circular tombs.
It differs from the others both because it is a more recent burial, from the Bronze Age, built over an earlier Neolithic grave circle, as is confirmed by the discovery of large pieces of slabs similar to those used for the cista of the other circles, and of several soapstone necklace beads.
Despite its characteristics making it similar to the allées couvertes, its small size reasonably leads to interpreting it as a grave.
Rectangular, oriented on an EW axis, the burial chamber was dug over half a metre below ground level; the three long sides consist of a series of rough-hewn blocks, placed sideways, the bottom wall is closed instead by a single unprocessed block (figs. 2, 3).
The structure of the mound does not develop on all sides, to the east it is free almost certainly in order to facilitate the reuse of the burial chamber (fig. 4); this is a sign of social change which introduces the novelty of multiple burials compared with tombs from the previous phase.
From a chronological point of view, in the absence of evidence allowing the identification of the time the tomb was built, the only guide fossil is a small bowl recovered outside, which documents attendance of the monument during the Middle Bronze Age (1600-1300 B.C.).
Inside the tomb circle no. 5, sporadic elements of a green soapstone necklace have been found.
