Church of San Salvatore

The country church dedicated to San Salvatore stands on a small hill, 39 metres high, in  charming landscape with numerous olive trees, a short distance from the archaeological complex of S’Ortali ‘e su Monte (fig. 1).

The small church is rectangular in shape, 20 metres long, 7.20 metres wide and 3.6 metres high. It has a gabled roof and the facade is surmounted by a small bell-gable; the door is covered by a semi-circular arch (figs. 2-3).

On the left side of the church you have a portico and a small building used during the annual feast celebration. This loggia also has a secondary entrance to the church and a fireplace (fig. 4).

The interior, a single chamber, is paved in earthenware tiles. The presbytery has a brick altar.
News contained in archive documents tells us that the church was rebuilt in 1901 as it was in a really bad state of repair. However, scholars think that its first plant was considerably older.
