Insula ‘B’

Of the various groups of blocks in Monte Sirai, insula B is distinguished by its central position. It is positioned south-west of ’insula ‘A’, containing the temple of Astarte and craftsmen’s buildings, and enclosed by the so-called ’Piazza no. 2’, that encloses the space that is progressively narrowed between insulae ‘C’ and ‘D’.

Insula B is the smaller of the two blocks (D, E) that stand on the edge of the high plain, like the parallel insula ‘C’, further East.

It contains one of the most important, well-known buildings of the acropolis, the “Casa Fantar”; areas near this house have been investigated during digs, allowing interesting reconstruction models (fig. 3).
