Lanterns
Among the items found in Su Nuraxi, there are Nuragic lanterns (lamps) made from pottery, which were widely used in the homes and places of worship between the Final Bronze Age and the Iron Age, in different shapes (spoon-shaped, heart-shaped, boat-shaped). Oily substances contained in the tub allowed a wick to be burnt, held down by a stone placed on the bottom of the lantern in the immersed part. The heart-shaped lantern, dated to the 9th-8th century B.C., has a long lip, a cross-section with inward facing margins, a flat bottom and a decoration of impressed circles (figs. 1, 2, 3, 4).
The artefacts are currently on show at Casa Zapata in Barumini.
