The Red Rocks of Arbatax

Behind the port of Arbatax (fig. 1) you can admire the Red Rocks, one of the main points of attraction along the Ogliastra coast; now a natural monument, symbol of the area (fig. 2).

These are large Vermillion red porphyry cliffs, sculpted by the wind and sea creating a series of spires with vertical fracture lines (figs. 3-4). Part of the porphyritic rows crossing the entire Ogliastra coastline from Museddu to Cea, from Arbatax to the Isolotto of Ogliastra. Moreover, for many years the site was the location of the musical event Rocce Rosse Blues, a great showcase for famous international musicians.
